what difference does the carbon brace (steering) make, Ed?

Also, I noticed you used the One-way in your first set-ups, but switched to Spool for all the others.
Why did you do so, if I may ask
doesn't the 416 perform well with the One-way?

The carbon steering brace just seems to help make the front of the car a bit smoother, and gives a little more grip.

As for the Spool, it's related to the motor class, and alos the track conditions. IMO, 13.5 brushless (which is faster than 27t) is about the limit for a one-way in terms of whats the faster way for getting round the track, at least in the hands of us mortals anyway :p
I came close to trying one in the car at the weekend, but in the end figured there was no need as I could gain steering on the car another way. 10.5t and higher I would use a spool regardless, if running 17.5/27t then a one-way is probably the way to go, unless the track is very tight and twisty, when I would look towards a diff.

Latest carpet wars setup... car felt very easy to drive, and carried great corner speed along with good reaction. Just need more luck in the finals, or to not drive straight into the first turn
